About the Exam:

 


Q. How much does the home study book and exam cost?

AThe Pleasure Craft Operator Study Guide can be purchased at a cost of $25 and the exam can be written at a cost of $50. If you fail the first exam, you can write the next exam at no charge by presenting the receipt from your first attempt. This can be paid using Cash or Debit.

 



Q. Do I have to buy a home study guide, or can I just challenge the exam?

A. You are welcome to challenge the exam. However, if you do fail the exam, we would recommend purchasing a home study guide before writing the exam again.

 



Q. Do I need to bring any identification?

A. Yes, we will need to verify your identity at the end of the exam. Appropriate identification would be a valid driver’s license or birth certificate.



Q. How long does the boating exam take?

A. There is a 75 minute time limit to complete the exam.


Q. How long do I have to wait to write the exam again if I fail?

A. If you fail the exam you are welcome to come back and try again the next day to take a different version of the exam.

 



Q. How long does it take to receive my Pleasure Craft Operator Card once I pass?

A. You will receive a temporary Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) immediately once you pass the exam, and you will receive your permanent card in the mail from MTAC in 6-8 weeks.



Q. How many Questions are there, and how many do I need to answer correctly to pass?

A. There are 50 questions in total. The questions are all multiple choice with four answer options. You need to answer a minimum of 38 questions correctly in order to pass the exam.



The Licence
- With a pass mark on the exam, you will be given a temporary operators certificate which is valid immediately. Within 8 weeks you will recieve a credit card style license in the mail from MTAC, the issuers of the approved license.
